The Resident Electoral Commissioner Abia state , Dr Joseph JC Iloh has disclosed that about 12 to 13 thousand persons in Abia state have registered in the on going Continuous voters registration , adding that precisely 12919 persons as at Monday this week have uploaded their data and over 50 percent of them have completed their registration processes .
Addressing Newsmen in the Abia state headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) , he said the registration is going on in the headquarters of all the 17 local governments in Abia state , urging the voters that there should be no double registration as it is a criminal offence that is punishable by law.
Dr Iloh therefore called on all voters who attain the age of 18 years from the last registration process in 2018 ,all persons who are transferring from one location to another within this nation ,all persons who have Defaced voters cards ,all persons who have issues of identification in the last election,”if your voter’s card could not be identified by systems come and update it ” , all those who have issues with their documentation ,the data they uploaded like the date of birth , is not correct , that your name was wrongly spelt come and effect the correction.
Speaking further ,he informed that INEC has organized several public enlightenment program to sensitize Abians that they visited markets ,shops , churches, mosques and other places and that these programs have increased the level of enlightenment and participation.
He appealed to Abians to troop out en mass and go to the local government headquarter in their areas to participate in the exercise , pointing out that it is their powerful weapon for enthronement and dethronement of political representatives.
