The Enugu Good Governance Group (E-3G) has congratulated the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State and Founder/CEO of Pinnacle Oil and Gas Ltd., Dr. Peter Mbah on the successful unveiling of Pinnacle’s $1 Billion dollars (about N750 billion naira) petroleum products facility by President Muhammadu Buhari at the weekend.

The group said the official launch of Pinnacle’s ultra-modern petroleum products intake, storage, and offtake terminal in the Lekki Free Zone, Lagos, stood Dr. Mbah poles apart as an accomplished entrepreneur, who Enugu needed in these times of national economic crises.

This was even as they accused Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Enugu state, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga, of resorting to smear campaign for want of what to showcase, and urged other governorship contestants to show what they have been able to contribute to the development of the Nigerian economy and Enugu’s development “outside feeding fat off government”.

The group bared its mind in a statement by its National Coordinator, Comrade Odinaka Okechukwu, who also hails from Mgbuji, Eha-Amufu Ward 3, from where  Edeoga also comes. .

In the statement made available to reporters in Enugu on Sunday, E-3G, said: “The successful unveiling of the ambitious facility by the President goes to confirm that Dr. peter Mbah is the kind of leader Enugu State needs at this time of highly diminished oil revenue when leaders must think outside the box to navigate their people from the prevalent national economic crisis to prosperity and sustainable development.

“It is, however shameful that while the President, sector regulators, local and foreign industry players, well-meaning Nigerians, captains of industry, and the good people of Enugu were busy celebrating our own son and Pinnacle over this record-breaking project, Edeoga and his group were busy using a fictitious group to play politics and malign Mbah and his accomplishments.

“We challenge Edeoga to point to any other achievement for his 25 years in politics other than the constituency project he attracted as a Member of the House of Representatives for Enugu-East/Isi-Uzo, from 1999 to 2003. Unfortunately, even that only project, which is located around Central School Eha-Ohuala in his hometown, Eha-Amufu, is still uncompleted, abandoned and in ruins after more than two decades.

“We hold that those, who aspire to govern Enugu State in 2023 must first of all show us what they have been able to accomplish in public and private sectors.

“We need people with track records of excellence. You cannot become Enugu’s governor by virtue of being in government for 25 years as council Chairman, Member of the House of Representatives, presidential aide, and a two-time commissioner with nothing to show for it, except primitive aggrandisement”.

E-3G enjoined Enugu people not to be carried away by people trying to hide under Peter Obi’s presidential candidacy when they failed in offices earlier entrusted to them.

“Every candidate must be interrogated on his or her own merit. Everybody must answer his or her father’s name”, the group concluded.
