The Bishop of Umuahia Diocese ,Anglican communion ,the RT Revd.Geoffrey Ibeabuchi has strongly condemned the same faith ticket of the ruling party (APC) and all forms of electoral violence during campaigns,political thuggery as well as all forms of vote buying and selling during the primary elections in the country, said they are unacceptable.
He also requested all registered voters to come all out to vote during the election and demanded that the law enforcement agencies remain non-partisan and professional in the discharge of their responsibilities .
Speaking while delivering the presidential address, during the 13th Umuahia Anglican Diocesan Men Fellowship held at St. Stephen’s cathedral Umuahia, the President of Christian Men Fellowship and Bishop of Umuahia, RT.Revd. Geoffrey Ibeabuchi, encouraged both men and women of the Church to join politics to vote and be voted for and congratulated all members that are in the race for various offices as candidates and prayed that God grants them victory at the polls.
Continuing, he commended “the signing of the electoral bill into law, the use of electronic transmission of results and the use of the BVAS machines provided they are not manipulated as well as the signing of the peace-accord and ask the parties involved to keep to the terms of the agreement”
They lamented the level of insecurity in the country, said “Nigeria has become terribly unsafe,our major highways have become the kingdom of criminal elements ranging from bandits, kidnappers,armed robbers as well as terrorists.The entire nation is under siege while our government seems helpless.
” It is very sad to note that this is no longer the Nigeria we used to be proud of as our nation.
” Students and school children are adopted at ease, check points and formations are unsafe.
” Top military men,our gallant soldiers are kidnapped and killed within military cantonments without anybody being arrested.
“In some areas, Farmers now pay taxes in cash or kind before they can access their farmlands in order to plan or harvest their crops”
The conference decried the level of oil theft in the country, said the quantity of oil being stolen from day to day in the view of all the security agencies in the creeks of Niger Delta has remained alarming, added that “Nigeria is busy moving from one level of inflation,recession, economic hardship, unemployment while some people have been busy feed fat from our common wealth in the name of oil theft and bunkering.
“The conference join all the good people of the South East Nigeria to rejoice over the victory of our son and brother Mazi Nnamdi Kanu at the Appeal court and request the Federal Government to seek a political solution to the problem of the South East and leave Mazi Nnamdi Kanu alone .
“We want to advise the Federal Government to kindly withdraw the appeal already filed at the Supreme Court by the Attorney General of the Federation,Malam Malami in the best interest of this Nation”
Interacting with Newsmen shortly after the Presidential address, the chairman of the conference planning committee for 2022 Christian Men Fellowship Cyril Nwaubani described the theme,”God knows you”as apt when you look at the events happening in the society these days.
He pointed out that it is a Clarion call for the men to wake up to their responsibilities in the homes, churches, and communities in general, added “that no circumstances should make us shy away from our responsibilities bearing in mind that God knows us even before we were born”
