2023 Elections: Atiku, Tinubu, Obi, others sign peace pact three days to poll

Presidential candidates from 18 political parties have signed a peace accord ahead of this Saturday’s presidential election.

The signing of the peace accord was held on Wednesday at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.

President Muhammadu Buhari was present at the event along with members of the National Peace Committee.

Some of the candidates in attendance include; Bola Tinubu (All Progressives Congress, APC), Peter Obi (Labour Party, LP), Omoyele Sowore (African Action Congress, AAC), Atiku Abubakar (Peoples Democratic Party, PDP) and Rabiu Kwankwaso (New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP).

The first peace accord was signed in September 2022 prior to the commencement of campaigns.

The previous accord was signed so candidates can oblige to a peaceful Campaign.

The recently signed accord is to ensure commitment to a peaceful conduct in the 2023 presidential election.

Members of the peace committee present include General Abdulsalami Abubakar, Bishop Matthew Kukah, and Dr John Momoh, CON.

Others were the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba, and former president of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki, who leads the Commonwealth Election Observer Group to Nigeria.
