Wearing of miniskirts in both public and private schools in the state was over the weekend banned by Anambra State Government.
This is coming as most schools in the state are expected to resume for the new academic year on Monday (tomorrow)
The commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh announced the government’s decision at the weekend
during an interactive meeting with education secretaries of public and mission schools held at the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board
(ASUBEB) hall, Awka.
The Commissioner condemned the growing rate of students adorning mini-length uniforms to schools, describing it as morally wrong and unacceptable to the standards desired for the children by the state government.
Her words, “A student should look smart, well groomed, project positive vibes and not be indecently dressed for school.”
She explained that the acceptable length for uniforms in the state remained knee length and not above the knee as was fast becoming the trend.
Chuma-Ude charged the education secretary to ensure schools would comply with the directives and salvage the future of the students of the state.
She also enjoined the participants to infuse the right morals and discipline in students so that they would grow to be good behaviour and conduct.
