The Emir of Katsina, Dr. Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, has charged Nigerian political elite to strive in the cause of promoting unity and progress across religious and tribal dichotomy in the country.

Stating this in his palace while conferring Sardaunan Katsina title on the Director General of National Intelligence agency (NIA), Ambassador Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, at the weekend, Dr. Usman made a strong case for national unity and the need to deemphasize primordial sentiments to move the nation to greater heights.

He warned that no nation could achieve greatness without unity of purpose among its people and expressed gratitude to God that Nigeria remained nation with about 260 tribal groups despite odds.

The monarch however lamented that in spite of its abundant human and material endowment, Nigeria lagged behind its peers in the comity of nations due to lack of commitment to national unity and interest by the elite.

“The best among mankind is he who suppresses his interest for the interests of others. Do not discriminate against anyone on the basis of religion or tribe,” he admonished Nigerians.

While appreciating the meritorious contributions of Katstina – born  Ambassador Abubakar and the delegations from the Presidency as well as heads of some countries within and outside African continents at the event, the traditional ruler described the conferment of Sardaunan title the diplomat as a clarion call to higher duty in the Katsina Emirate and the Katsina State Council of Chiefs.

Present on the occasion were Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, who led Federal Government’s delegation; Senate President, Ahmad Lawan and several senators; captains of industry led by the Chairman of First Bank and Jaiz Bank, Umar Muttalab; Nigerian diplomats and their counterparts from several nations as well as the representatives of heads of some countries.
