President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday swore- in former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Solomon Arase as the new Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC).
Arase takes over from Mr. Musliu Smith, himself a former Inspector-General of Police, who resigned in September, 2022 after which a member of the Commission Justice Clara Ogunbiyi (rtd) resumed as PSC Chairman in acting capacity since September 15, 2022.
President Buhari performed the Swearing-in ceremony shortly before the commencement of this week’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting of at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Meanwhile, the President also swore-in five members for the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
The members are Murtala A. Kankia from Katsina to represent (North West); Zephaniah Ishaku Bulus from Nasarawa to represent (North Central) and Farouq Umar from Yobe state to represent (North East).
Others are, Abdulsalam Taofiq Olawale from Ondo State to represent (South West) and Prof. Juwayriya Badamasiuy from Kogi State to represent (North Central).
The Council also observed a minute silence in honor of former Chief of defence Staff, Oladipo Diya.
Mr Diya, a retired lieutenant general, who served as the Chief of General Staff to the late head of state, Sani Abacha, died on Sunday 26th march 2023 at the age of 79.
He was the military governor of Ogun State from January 1984 to August 1985.
