The Lagos State House of Assembly has amended the Appropriation Law of 2023 by re-ordering the sum of #761,218,455,055 in line with the request of the State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The reordering was sequel to the letter sent to the House by the Governor, seeking authorisation of re-ordering of the Y2023 Budget.

Sanwo-Olu had sent a letter to the House requesting approval to reorder the sum of N234.669 billion from the 2023 budget of N1.768 trillion.

The Governor said the reordering would enable the government focus more on capital expenditure and palliatives to cushion the effects of the current economic challenges faced by residents of the State.

The Clerk of the House, Barrister Olalekan Onafeko, had through a letter from the Governor, requested the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa and other lawmakers that the state was increasingly confronted with the need of his administration to meet the yearnings of the people.

The Governor noted that the 2023 budget had been partially implemented, adding that as at 30 June, 2023, it had 76 percent overall performance.

The House at plenary on Tuesday 31 October, approved the reordering after the Chairman of the Committee on Economic Planning and Budget, Hon. Lukman Olumoh, presented the report and recommendations of the Committee which were adopted as the resolution of the House.

At the sitting presided by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Mojisola Meranda, the lawmakers read the bill a third time before its eventual passage.

Titled ‘A Bill for a Law to amend the appropriation Law, 2023 and to authorise the re-ordering of #761,218,455,055 from the consolidated Revenue Fund for Recurrent Expenditure and 1,006,795,700,230 from Development Fund for Capital Expenditure’ it was unanimously approved by the lawmakers through a voice note.
