The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for the disbandment of the Plateau State elections petition appeal panels sitting in Abuja over what it described as a dangerous pattern of conflicting judicial pronouncements emanating from the panels.
The party said the conflicting judgements if not redressed would not only undermine democracy, but also truncate the will of the people of Plateau State as expressed in the 2023 National Assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary of the party, said the “frightening pattern by the Plateau Appeal Court Panel constitutes a clear and present danger to our democratic process, national peace and stability; a bad precedent for judicial mischief and particularly a recipe for anarchy, chaos and breakdown of law.”
He said the party has also instructed its lawyers to take necessary steps to petition the National Judicial Council (NJC) over the conduct of the Plateau State Election Appeal Court Panel “which is clearly unbecoming of judicial officers.”
