FG Urged to Implement Integrated Digital Curriculum to Drive Digital Economy

The Knowledge Exchange Center (KEC) has urged the federal government to implement an integrated digital curriculum that introduces digital skills at an early stage, starting from primary education and continuing through secondary and university education.

The center noted that teachers play a pivotal role in delivering digital education actively, therefore investing in teacher training programmes ensures that educators are proficient in both technology and pedagogical methods, which would benefit the Nigerian economy by creating a digitally literate workforce.

It stated in a statement that the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) recently launched the first phase of its 3 Million Technical Talents Programme (3MTT).

KEC in the statement commended NITDA for launching the programme, adding that it aims to train three million Nigerians by 2027 with the help of various stakeholders.

The statement revealed that initiatives such as this play an essential role in developing a skilled digital workforce, and participants would learn through practical training, which is often the most effective way to acquire technical knowledge and skills.

The statement further explained that it is crucial to design these programmes in collaboration with industry partners, ensuring that the skills taught are in line with industry demands, adding that such an industry-driven approach makes graduates more employable and enables them to contribute e ectively in their chosen fields.

The statement averred that the programme should also include job placement opportunities, and this would provide participants with a significant advantage as they can start their careers immediately after completing their training, “this not only benefits individuals but also helps address the skills shortage in industries that require digital expertise.”
