Abscond from office or face impeachment, Zulum warns newly sworn in LGchairmen

The Borno state Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum has warned the newly sworn in 27 local government areas chairmen against abscondment as anybody that stay way from office is to face impeachment..

Speaking at the Swearing in ceremony of LG chairmen, Special Advisers and Permanent Secretaries at the Multipurpose Hall of the Government House, Maiduguri on Monday, Governor Babagana Zulum said ” I want warn that you should stay at your local government headquarters or be impeached. Because absentism from office is an impeachment offence. This time around we are not going hescitate to remove any chairmen who abscond”.

“I want to use this opportunity to direct the ministry of Local government and Chieftabcy Affairs to deploy Data captured Machine for attendence. All the chairmen should thump print the attendence by 8am, 2pm and 3pm daily, except on concrete official duties outsude the local government area”, Zulum added.

The governor said ” before your primary elections we sat with you and I warned you that anybody that is not willing to stay at the local government headquarters should not vie for the office, this time I want reutrate thàt we are serious and we are not going tolerate absentism”.

To ensure strict compliance to the directive, Governor Zulum said ” I would be paying unscheduled visit to your local government headquarters to ensure compliance”.

He directed them to make sure that development is spread across the local government areas, as no excuses or no fund is unacceptable.

Zulum also called on the newly sworn in chairmen to unite with all stakeholders such as National and state Assembly members, commissioners and others stakeholders to bring development to their local governments and the state in general, stressing that anybody that that want bring development to the state should have to inform the state government.

The governor also called he newly sworn in permanent Secretaries and the Special Advisers to committed, dedicated to their duties to ensure they keyed into cardinal objective and policies of the government.

Earlier, the Borno state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftabcy Affairs, Hon. Sugun Mai Meke urged the newly sworn in chairmen to prudent, responsible, transparent and accountable to the people that elected them.

He reminded them, that as a democratically elected chairmen of their respective local government areas they should demonstrate commitment to serve the people at the grassroots and justify the trust bestowed on them by the electirates.

He also commended the Governor for ensuring that local government election was conducted at the grassroots level twice within the span of 5 year, despite the security challenges.

27 local government areas, 7 permanent Secretaries and 29 Special Advisers were sworn in.
