The Naval Institute of Technology, Ogorode, Sapele, Delta State, on Saturday graduated 88 officers, who received diplomas in Marine Engineering, Weapon Electrical Engineering, and Automobile Engineering.
The graduating class comprised 46 officers specialising in Marine Engineering, 27 in Weapon Electrical Engineering, and 15 in Automobile Engineering.
The Flag Officer Commanding Naval Training Command, Rear Admiral Istifanus Abara, who was the Special Guest of Honour, commended the institute on reaching a major milestone.
Represented by the Chief of Naval Engineering, Rear Admiral Baratuaipri Iyalla, the FOC said, “These graduates will not only man but also manage advanced platforms and systems essential to maritime operations.”
Iyalla lauded the contributions of the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, to advancing the Navy’s technological capabilities, particularly through the adoption of cutting-edge systems like drones, aircraft, and maritime domain awareness platforms.
Founded in 1982 as the Nigerian Navy Technical Training Centre, the Naval Institute of Technology has undergone remarkable transformation.
Initially established to provide “Artificer-style” training focused on ship maintenance, it has grown into a prestigious institution accredited by the National Board for Technical Education.
The Commandant of the NIT, Rear Admiral Sunday Oyegade, expressed the institute’s dedication to maintaining global standards, blending theoretical instruction with practical expertise.
“Our curriculum is designed to equip graduates with the skills and knowledge to excel both within the Navy and beyond,” he said.
