The Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) has unveiled an ambitious calendar of events and strategic initiatives to commemorate its 50th anniversary, with a strong focus on shaping the future of energy in Nigeria and across Africa.

Speaking during a media parley in Lagos on Tuesday, NAPE President, Mr. Johnbosco Uche, FNAPE, described the golden jubilee celebration as a landmark moment for the association and the broader energy sector. Founded in 1975, NAPE has grown to become Africa’s largest professional body for petroleum geoscientists, with over 15,000 individual members and 173 corporate organizations.

“Our golden jubilee is not just a celebration of the past, but a reaffirmation of our role in leading Africa’s energy future,” Uche said. “For five decades, NAPE has been a key driver of exploration success, policy advocacy, and capacity building in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.”

The highlight of the anniversary will be a commemorative event on August 14, 2025, at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos. Activities will include a high-level panel session on the evolution of Nigeria’s energy sector, a gala night honoring industry pioneers, the launch of a legacy documentary, and the unveiling of a commemorative magazine featuring contributions from industry veterans and emerging professionals.

Uche emphasized that NAPE will use the milestone to push for the revitalization of the Niger Delta basin and renewed investment in frontier basin gas exploration. “Our vision is to unlock new reserves, boost production, and ensure energy security for Nigeria and the continent,” he added.

NAPE also announced plans for its flagship Annual International Conference and Exhibition, scheduled for November 9–13, 2025, in Lagos. Themed “Revitalizing the Nigerian Petroleum Exploration & Production Strategies for Energy Security and Sustainable Development,” the conference will convene stakeholders from government, industry, academia, and the global energy community.

In furtherance of its academic collaboration, NAPE will co-host the NAPE-NMGS Mini Conference at Kwara State University from August 26–30, 2025, to deepen geoscience education and foster industry-academic synergy.

The association also highlighted its strategic partnership with Africa Oil Week 2025 in Accra, Ghana, where it will promote Nigerian exploration success stories and investment opportunities.

Uche reiterated NAPE’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s net-zero target by 2060 and expanding energy access to the over 90 million Nigerians currently without electricity.

“NAPE’s story is one of passion, patriotism, and progress,” Uche concluded. “As we look ahead to the next 50 years, we call on all stakeholders to join us in driving an energy future” he said.
