The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) has refuted claims that 34 people died in the fire incident that occurred at its Broad Street branch car park in Lagos on Thursday.

Controller General, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS), Margaret Adeseye, in a statement, said no casualties or injuries were reported.

According to her the only damage recorded was to the affected vehicle and its immediate surroundings.

She said the service successfully extinguished a fire outbreak that occurred on the 3rd floor of the Polaris Bank Building, located at 61/65 Broad Street, Lagos Island.

Speaking further, she said the incident was reported at approximately 11:33 hours and involved a stationary saloon car parked on the 3rd floor of the 17-storey building, which serves as a parking facility.

Adeseye noted that firefighters from the Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu Fire Stations promptly responded to the emergency and swiftly contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to other vehicles and sections of the building.

She maintained that the firefighting operation has been successfully concluded, and normalcy has been fully restored to the area.

The management of Polaris Bank Limited also refuted the claims that 34 people died in the fire incident that occurred at its Broad Street branch car park in Lagos on thursday.
The bank in a statement, also said that the fire originated from a customer’s vehicle parked on the third-floor car park of the branch.

According to the bank, its emergency response procedures were immediately activated, while firefighters and other emergency responders swiftly intervened to contain the blaze.

The bank confirmed that no lives were lost and no casualties were recorded in the incident.

It therefore described reports circulating on social media alleging that more than 34 people were feared dead as false and entirely inaccurate.

It added that assessments and investigations into the cause of the incident are ongoing while expressing appreciation to emergency responders, staff, customers, and other stakeholders for their support and prompt response.
