The Bishop on the Niger, Anambra state, the Rt Rev Owen Nwokolo, has reportedly sacked a priest under him, lumenkristi Sylvester Eboh, for allegedly being a randy priest and acquiring earthly things to himself without the consent of the church.
Briefing newsmen at the state secretariat of Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Awka, Thursday, the Bishop who was ably represented by the Deputy Chancellor/Registrar, Sir Ben Uzuegbu, (SAN), said that, “we tried to bring him back to life to face his work in the church as an ordained priest but he rather continued with his unwelcomed life style”
The press briefing was in reaction to the earlier press briefing held by the sacked priest, where he accused the church of taking his wife and plot to take over his Ministry,( Lumenkristi Adoration Ministry).
“Accusation by the sacked priest against the church and Bishop was false and we would have ignored it but for the sake of gullible public, we decided to put the record straight”
According to the Bishop, “the Priest was sent on indefinite suspension on 20th December 2021 due to his numerous acts contrary to the scripture and traditions of the church in accordance with the cannon XVI (38) church of Nigeria, (Anglican communion)”
“One of the petitions agsinst the priest was written by the law zoomers, a firm of legal practitioners which claims that he impregnated a lady who was under his custody for prayers.
He made love with the girl and put her in the family way. We tried to handle the case mildly and when we asked the priest he said she was the girl holy spirit said he should marry”.
” A panel was set up to look into the case and he was placed on suspension while the matter was being looked into.He could not attend to the invitation of the panel to defend himself.
What we are seeing is strange, if it were to be lawyers affairs he should be in the hottest side of the prison cooling off.”
His wife has been complaining about his romance with a particular girl to the church and each time she complained he would beat her up.
As the beating continued she fled the matrimonial home to save her life .”
On the claim by the priest that the Bishop and his wife insisted being included in the priest Lumenkristi Ministery as trustees, the Bishop denied it stating that there is no provision in the constitution for a priest to register a parallel ministry whilst serving the Diocese without the official approval from his Bishop.
“He was living on the church, being paid by the church, using the church properties and resources, misappropriated funds entrusted to him discreetly registered a ministry , yet still claims to be a priest of the church”
Also on the claim by the priest that the church took his wife he said , “this is quite funny and laughable, it shows his extent of immoral actions that appear to have caused the wife to abandon him”
“More so the investigation by the panel shows he is living with a strange woman who claimed to be his personal secretary and abandoned the wife “.
The Diocese withdrew his license and he can not parade himself now as a priest of the Anglican Church,” he posited.
