Three persons died in the rainstorm disaster which occurred in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State in the early hours of this Sunday.
One of the victims was said to be the wife of a staff of the local council’s information unit in Kankara, Surajo Zabo, while two persons, it was further gathered, lost their lives in Matsiga community.
Daily Champion learnt that the rainstorm which lasted from the late hours of Saturday to Sunday morning left Kankara town, Nasarawa and Matsiga communities as worst affected.
An eye witness disclosed that one of the two killed in Matsiga lost her life following the collapse of part of the walls of room, adding that the deceased was buried on Sunday according to Islamic rites.
It was also gathered that several persons were injured during the rainstorm which wreaked yet to be determined number of houses and farmlands as at press time.
When contacted, an information officer in the area, Abdulkarim Sani, confirmed the incident but the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) is yet to respond to calls for comments as at the time of this report.
