Police Nab Two For Stealing, Sale Of Nine Day Old Baby For N400,000

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested two suspects, Juliet Agboifo and Wilfred Nosa Egheaghe, on allegation of child stealing and selling.

 

The duo were said to have negotiated to sell and agreed to buy the nine day old baby whose mother, one Prosper is still to report the matter to the police for N400,000 (Four Hundred Thousand Naira).

 

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chidi Nwabuzor, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogida Division acting on credible information led his operatives to Teachers House, Ogida Quarters, where Agboifo, who was waiting to procure a child, was arrested and she led the team to meet Wilfred Egheaghe(the seller) “as the investigation continues, the suspect, Wilfred Nosa Egheaghe, who wanted to sell the child, was arrested.

 

“Both of them were taken to the station for further interrogation and upon preliminary investigation this case was transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of Edo State Police Command.

 

“As we speak the investigation into it has almost been concluded and shortly the suspects would be processed to court.”

 

Speaking in his own defence, Egheaghe, 62, who owns Uyiosa Clinic, said that the baby actually was given birth to in his facility with the mother giving hint that she did not need the child and was ready to sell. This led to the link up with Agboifo, a mother of one, who was interested.

 

Agboifo, 45, while responding to inquires stated that she is a petty trader and was interested in adopting the baby.
