A’Ibom partners NULGE to boost staff, retirees’ welfare

The Akwa Ibom State government has committed to collaborating with the National Union of Local Government Employees to enhance the welfare of its staff and retirees.
State Governor, Dr Umo Eno, stated this while delivering his remarks at the 8th Quadrennial State Delegate Conference of the Union held in Uyo on Saturday.
He stated that he would work with elected officials to ensure the welfare of NULGE staff and retirees is well catered for.
Eno, who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Frank Achibong, commended NULGE for the peaceful conduct of the election and pledged support for the newly elected officers in the state, aiming to promote industrial harmony.
“I will stop at nothing to ensure that NULGE remains stronger under my administration. I am committed to the welfare of local government staff and retirees,” he said.
The National President of NULGE, Akeem Ambali, who pledged the support of the national body, called on the newly elected officers in the state to work for the welfare of members and ensure everyone is considered.
In her acceptance speech, the newly re-elected Akwa Ibom NULGE President, Anestina Iweh, who was re-elected for another four-year term, commended members for the trust they had placed in her to serve them for a second tenure.
She said, “When I made this same speech in 2020, there was a lot of debt, but now they are all cleared. I have never betrayed you, and I will never do so.”
Earlier, the state ALGON Chairman, Dr Uwemedimo Udo, who also serves as the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, lauded NULGE for the peaceful conduct of the election and pledged the support of the 31 Local Government Area administrations in the state for the newly elected officers.
The event also featured the presentation of an award of excellence to the Governor as the Local Government-Friendly Governor by NULGE.
The newly elected members of the executive include Deputy President EDET Effiong Ukosin, Publicity Secretary Augustine Akpan, Auditor Ukoh Charles Edet, and Unyime Monday Udo.
Other elected members include Imo Udoeyop and Ifiok Macaulay John (Trustees), Beatrice Amos Ekong, Imo Raphael Essien, and Udeme Pius (Welfare Officers), Uduak Udontah (Chairperson, Women’s Representative), and Ekaete Uyo Nkanta (Young Workers Representative)
