A’Ibom polytechnic denies issuing fake medical lab science admission letters

Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic, a privately owned institution in Akwa Ibom State, has dismissed claims of issuing false admission letters for a Medical Laboratory Science programme.
In a statement issued on Monday in Uyo, the Acting Rector, Samuel Etim, clarified that the polytechnic does not offer a degree programme in Medical Laboratory Science, nor does it have a department for the course.
The clarification comes in response to a report published by the Association of University Academic Medical Laboratory Scientists in the Nigerian Tribune on December 13, 2024.
The publication, titled “Illegal Mounting of Medical Lab Science Degree Programme,” alleged that Ibom Polytechnic issued admission letters to candidates for the course.
Etim described the claims as misleading and urged the public to disregard the allegations.
“Our attention has been drawn to a publication by the Association of University Academic Medical Laboratory Scientists in Nigerian Tribune online Newspaper dated December, 13th 2024 on the subject ‘Illegal Mounting of Bachelor of Medical Lab Science (B.MLS) Degree Programme.’
“The authority of IMP, therefore, wishes to disclaim the purported letter as it did not emanate from the institution. It is on record that IMP does not offer a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science and as such has not issued any admission letter or admitted any student into a non-existing department.
“The institution upholds that it is only The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board that is saddled with the responsibility of issuing admission letters to deserving candidates into Universities accredited to offer B.MLS.
“Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic sees this allegation as the handiwork of some mischievous individuals whose aim is to discredit or dent the good image of the Polytechnic. We consider the letter as “Fake,” and wish to disassociate ourselves totally from the allegations and urge members of the public to disregard the notice as the institution is not a party to the issue raised”, the statement said.
He, therefore, warned members of the public to be wary of such scams or to fall prey to receiving fake admission letters to study a non-existing course in a non-existing department.
