The Ohanaeze Elders Council has reacted to the violent attacks on the Igbos and the destruction of their property in their ancestral homes

According to the chairman of the elders council, Engr Chief Emmanuel C Iwuanyanwu, the council is vexed by the unwarranted killings of the Igbo people

Addressing a press conference in Owerri Thursday, Chief Iwuanyanwu said, ” in the past few weeks, many parts of Igbo have experienced unprovoked attacks in some parts of Enugu and Ebony states”

He noted that the case of Enugu, is a clear invasion of Igbo land by unknown people

Chief Iwuanyanwu said, ” it is worrisome that innocent Igbos have been killed in their numbers in their homes, their houses destroyed, set ablaze and their property looted”

The Elders Council noted further that many Igbos especially in the boarder with Kogi and Benue states have fled their homes and are now homeless

Also Chief Iwuanyanwu said that the Council has noted that there are similar experience in some parts of Ebonyi state especially those near the boarder of Northern states

Visibly worried, the council chairman said that the elders council views this situation as a declaration of hostility against the Igbos believing that any attack on any Igboman, is an attack on the Igbo Nation

The Council however, urged the chairman of the Governor’s forum South East Nigeria and Governor of Ebonyi state Engr Dave Umeahi and the president General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo world wide, professor George Obiozor to immediately convene

According to him, the meeting should involve political, religious, traditional and business leaders to find solution to stoping this ugly situation

He further recommended that the South East Governors forum in conjunction with the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo set up a relief committee for the purpose of collecting and distributing relief materials to the affected Igbos
