Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has expressed misgivings over South-East low participation in various economic initiatives of the Bank.
The Abakaliki Controller of the Apex Bank Mr Chris Adayi, made the assertion on Thursday on the occasion of the 2021 Edition of the Bank Fair held at the Akanu Ibiam International Conference Center abakaliki.
He reiterated that the bank had embarked on various Enlightenment and sensitization in the zone to enable the people key into the Initiatives.
Mr Adayi admonished the zone to take advantage of various CBN economic initiatives and policies to enhance its economic growth and wellbeing.
“The CBN fair has served as a veritable platform to enlighten the public on the various initiatives of the bank, this sensitization Fair like others before it, is anchored on the pursuit of sound economic policies that will engender economic growth,”
He outlined such CBN Initiatives to include the Payment System initiative, Real Sector Initiative, financial inclusion, Consumer Rights, Grievances Redress mechanism among others.
“We are all aware of the launch of the CBN Digital Currency known as E-naira by President Buhari on the 25th October, 2021″
“We have observed that participation of South-East region in these initiatives over the years have remained very low, it is on this note that I urge you all to take advantage of various Central Bank of Nigeria economic initiatives and policies to enhance your economic growth and wellbeing”, he said.
Earlier in his Speech, the Director Corporate Communication Department of the CBN Mr Osita Nwanisobi, said that efforts have been intensified to bring Ponzi Scheme Operators to book
” The CBN will work with Security Agencies to ensure that those who claim what they are not are brought to book”
Speaking against the backdrop of the e-naira launched by President Muhammadu Buhari recently, Mr Nwanisobi said that the issue of security and dependability of the e-naira platform was guaranteed because the technology uses kleptography incripted with two factors authentication.
“The e-naira project is a journey, we expect that there would be minor challenges, the e-naira platform works with Bank Verification Number (BVN).
