Death, chaos as fuel tanker falls in front of army barracks In Lagos

It is a confused scene as soldiers battle to restore order at the scene of an early morning accident in front of the Nigerian Army Signal Barracks in the Mile 2 area of Lagos.

According news sources  at the scene reports that a tanker carrying fuel coming from a tank farm in nearby Satellite Town fell into a gully in front of the barracks and the driver lost control. Men of Lagos State Fire Service and of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency are on ground trying to salvage the situation as the fuel continues to pour ceaselessly while the army has condoned off the scene to prevent okada riders from scooping the fuel.

The accident has caused traffic gridlock as those who want to go to CMS and Oshodi from Festac can no longer do so.

At least one person has been confirmed dead.

A spokesperson for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Nosa Okunbor, confirmed the incident, saying: “LASEMA Response Team is at Mile 2, inward the Nigerian Army Signal Barracks in recovery operation of a fully-loaded Oil Tanker conveying 55,000 litres of petrol involved in a lone accident which killed a female adult.”
