Against all odds, and speculations in the polity, the Delta state governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa said he would remain resolutely focused in providing good governance and service delivery to the people of Delta state.

Okowa who made the call at an interdenominational thanksgiving service to mark the 30th anniversary of the creation of Delta state, held at St. Peter’s anglican cathedral, Asaba, also called on the federal government to create an avenue for dialogue in the light of the various challenges facing the country.
He urged Nigerians particularly Deltans to be strongly united, irrespective of their ethnoreligious backgrounds as the strength of the country is tied to her ethnic diversity.
He said there were too many vocies of anger calling for justice, fairness and equity in the affairs of the nation and called on the federal government to take steps to listen to the voices of reason.
When the state was createdd on August 27 1991, the returnee public servants from Benin City and the then new leaders relocated to what was virtually a virgin land to begin the  forging of Delta State almost from nothing.
The story of the mass relocation of thousands of civil servants of delta state origin from benin City (capital of the new edo state and former capital of the defunct bendel state) to their new capital, Asaba is  a familiar one.
The journey to Delta State  began in the old “Western Region of Nigeria when the territory that today makes -up Edo and Delta states was part of that region.  this followed long agitations by our then leders who were against perceived marginalization by the Yoruba – Dominated government of Westeern Region, Benin and Delta provinces of the region became midwest region in August 1963 after a plebiscite conductedd by the then federal government led by the Prime Minister, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa.
in Februray 1976, the name midwest Region was changed to Bendel state by the then federal military government. in the wake of nationwide agitations for more states and local government areas in the federation, Bendel state was divided into Edo and Delta states on August 27th 1991.
“We thank God because that foundation is truly strong, today in Delta, we can look round and find that there are many growing towns in the state, unlike most states.
we have several growing cities in Delta state and when you take a tour to many states you will find out that God has truly blessed us in Delta state.
we are growing at our own pace, we may not all be able to grow at the same pace and we must realise this as a nation, governor Okowa  stated.”
