The electoral body in charge of the conduct of Osun local government election, Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) has averred that the council polls would be held as planned on Saturday regardless of the pending court cases.
The commission reiterated its commitment to conduct free, fair and credible local Government poll in the state.
The chairman of OSIEC, Otunba Segun Oladitan made the assertion during a radio programme in Osogbo on Thursday.
He noted that as of today no court order has stopped the commission from conducting the election.
On the number of political parties to participate, Oladitan said only the political parties that signified interest to contest will.
Recall that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All People’s Party (APP) are in court with different litigations challenging OSIEC over the planned election in the state.
Oladitan stressed that the law empowered the commission to conduct the election adding that only the court can determine its illegality after its conclusion.
The OSIEC chairman assured that the winners of the elections will be declared on Sunday, the day after the election.
