Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) has advised motorists to update their vehicle documents before its planned statewide motor/vehicle document compliance exercise in June.

The Head, of Media Communications of the service, Mr. Courage Ebiogbe, gave the advice in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Benin.

Eboigbe assured motorists that number plates were sufficiently available at all EIRS’ offices in the state.

He advised them not to patronize either touts or non-government officials.

He stated: “EIRS do hereby inform the general public of a planned Statewide Motor/Vehicle documentation compliance exercise this month of June 2022.

“Consequently, to ensure compliance, the EIRS, FRSC, VIOs, EDSTMA, Security Agencies, and Transport Unions shall be at all private and commercial motor, tricycle and motorcycle parks to ensure motorists possess a valid vehicle and driving documents.”

He listed vehicle license, driver’s license, and number plate, certificate of roadworthiness, hackney carriage, and vehicle insurance cover as part of the valid documents every motorist should possess.

“For the avoidance of doubt, motorists found to be in contravention shall be prosecuted in line with extant Road Traffic Laws,” Eboigbe added.

He further advised private park operators to provide a conducive environment for the success of the compliance exercise. (NAN)
