Edun Tasks New Board of NAICOM on Domestic Revenue Mobilisation

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has tasked the new board of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to stabilise the economy through enhanced domestic resource mobilisation.

Speaking during the inauguration of the board and management team, led by the Chairperson, Hajia Halima Kyari, the minister urged them to seize opportunity of the current demographic dividend and usher the insurance sector to greater heights.

While congratulating the team on the appointments, he reminded them of the tasks ahead adding “I am sure you are prepared and well-equipped.”

He said the board and management were carefully selected on members’ proven track records, experience and capacity, adding that they are required to deploy their wealth of experience to bear on the challenges ahead of them.

Edun pointed out that long-term funds remained a key element of current resource drive through the Life insurance sector.

He said long-term savings of Nigerians must be gathered, collected and well-utilised to support the growth of the economy.

“So, you have a major task ahead,” the minister added.

The minister also noted that the participation of international companies and Nigerian investors in the sector further demonstrated its attractiveness considering the country’s demographics.

However, speaking on behalf of the team, Kyari expressed appreciation to the president and minister for the honour to lead the commission.

She said, “We are here to assure you that we are going to work as a team and we are not going to disappoint you for giving us a chance to head this commission.”

The board also includes Mr. Olusegun Ayo Omosehin as Commissioner for Insurance/Chief Executive, NAICOM; Mr. Olawoye Gam-Ikon — Deputy Commissioner (Technical Operations); and Dr. Usman Ankara Jimada — Deputy Commissioner (Finance & Administration).

Others are Dr. Miriam Kene Kachikwu — Member; Mr. Adeniyi Olusegun Fabikun — Member; and Mr. Umar Khalifa Mohammed — Member.
