Ebonyi state Commissioner for power, Dr Peter Ogeali has urged the lawmaker, Hon. Ukie Ezeali to stop inciting the people against the government just because of the Afikpo electrification project which he wanted to be sole contractor and supervisor but was denied.
He said Ezeali was denied the job because the ministry of power wanted and eventually got someone with superior knowledge and expertise in the power field to handle the project to a superb finish.
Ogeali was reacting to the claims and disclosures made by the member representing Afikpo North East constituency in the state House of Assembly, Hon. Ukie Ezeali where he directly accused the ministry of power of diverting the N200m approved by the governor for the restoration of light in Afikpo.
He described Ukie Ezeali as a pretentious lover of Ehugbo community who was not only being clever by half but may perhaps be on a vendetta voyage and wanted to position himself as having done more than other stakeholders in Afikpo.
The Commissioner said, “That all the scheduled works as contained in the bill of Engineering measurements and Evaluation have been completed.
” That in addition to the eight transformers, five transformers were refurbished and installed in Enohia kalu, Amaozara Oziza, Oziza community, local government headquarters and Dan Ibiam substation.
“That a letter for the completion of the works was made to EEDC on the 23rd of May 2024 by the permanent secretary of the ministry and EEDC on 29th of May, 2024.
He urged the general public to note that it is the responsibility of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN to ensure that energy is transmitted from one station to another and the DISCOS to ensure that energy gets to the Installed transformer substations .
Ogeali further disclosed that what is delaying the supply of power to Afikpo and other parts of Ebonyi south zone is as a result of relocation of high voltage lines between Nkalagu and Ntezi along Enugu – Abakaliki highway and vandalized portion of Okposi axis .
He urged the people of Afikpo to remain calm and law abiding as the state government is restlessly trying to resolve the issues, approve the variations by the contractor handling the 33KVA Amasiri substation in order to compensate those affected by the said relocation and restore electricity to them and their neighbors.
