The former Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Hassan Bello, had urged freight forwarders and licensed customs agents to embrace technology to ensure growth in the sector.

Bello said this on Wednesday in Ikeja, Lagos, while speaking at the inauguration of the newly elected executive members of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents.

He lamented that agents still conduct their transactions manually at this time and age.

Bello also urged the licensed agents to ensure that their charges were not arbitrarily done.

“We have to embrace technology to be able to use the computer to conduct businesses. In this regard, it is bad that agents still conduct their businesses manually in this era. We have to embrace change and use technology rather than manual means to send documents to shipping companies. So, embracing technology is the key to the growth of this profession.

Earlier, the new President of ANLCA, Emenike Nwokeoji, said, “The election marked the end of the crisis in ANLCA. The association will continue to be grateful for the roles played by some individuals and agencies to ensure peace.

This event shows that the association has bounced back. It is time for us to come together to chat about a new course of relevance for the association. Other sister associations should come together and let us join hands together to rescue the profession from people who are masquerading themselves as agents,” he added.
