Gov Nwifuru chide EEDC, over lackadaisical attitude in checkmating vandalization of Transformers/Cables in the State.

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, has chided the management of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), over it’s lackadaisical attitude in checkmating the vandalization of Transformers and cables in various communities in the State.

Nwifuru made the condemnation in his office at Centenary City Abakaliki, when he received the Management of the Company on a courtesy visit.

He described as worrisome a situation where the EEDC behaves as if they don’t care about whether there is light for the people or not.

“On issue of supply, look at availability of energy, we don’t have industries in the State, we are supposed to be having light 24 hours”

The State Chief Executive decried incidence of over billing on customers without commensurate power supply.

“As a Governor, we can not allow our people to suffer, our people should get value for what they pay for”

“The theft in it is that EEDC is part of it, if anybody vandalize transformer, who is the buyer, it is either staffs that buy them”

“Not only vandalization of transformers, corper wires and cables are vandalized too”

The Governor urged Enugu Electricity, Distribution Company, to strive and maintain their property, stressing that it is the responsibility of the company to provide light to it’s customers.

“There is no way we face darkness, when others have light, if villagers contribute money to buy transformer and EEDC can not provide security, then there is no need”

“We are confronted with challenges, we have been bombarding the Manager in Ebonyi State, there comes a time where issues of electricity is trying to elude us in the State”

Earlier in a remark, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of EEDC and Leader of the Team Mr Praveen Chorghede, said that the company road map focused on Strategic Transformation Plan.

He solicited partnership with the State government to deliver electricity road map in the Stat

“For the next three years, we have articulated a road map to develop a sustainable commercial plan”

Mr Chorghede in a presentation titled “Destination For Business Minds, A way to make Self Reliant Nigeria” highlighted the Company vision to take up electricity vis avis the supply in the state.

“We are align with the Business objective of sharing common vision for the State”

The EEDC Managing Director expressed regret that the sit-at home order prevalent in the South-East political zone of the country, has hampered effective distribution of electricity in the region.

“Insecurity affect a lot of electricity distribution in the South-East including Ebonyi State, sit -at home affect normal business operation in the south-east’

Members of the EEDC Officials in attendance during the visit included Chief Technical Officer Engr Vincent Obiora, District Manager Abakaliki Mr Cyprien Nwankwo, Operation Manager Engr Kenneth Chima, and the Chief Security Officer Mr Samuel Oduma among others.
