Gov Uzodimma urges the media to assist Govt serve the people

Imo state Governor Hope Uzodimma has passionately solicited the assistance of media professionals in the state to educate and enlighten the people on the proper reason for the removal of oil subsidy by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu

Speaking in a forum with media practitioners and the leadership of the NUJ, Correspondents chapel and the NAWOJ, in the state in Owerri the state capital Wednesday, Governor Uzodimma noted that though the removal of the subsidy had inevitably imposed temporary hardship on the citizenry, the hardship would soon end

He explained , ” the action was part of the economic policies introduced by the president to reposition the nation’s economy and place it on the part of recovery and growth”

According to him, ” the removal of the subsidy was something which past administrations could not do”

He emphasized that though a temporary hardship now trails it pointing out that the government has since come up with palliatives to cushion the effects

Uzodimma believes that with this, it behoves on the media professionals as the fourth estate of the realm to use their professionalism to enlighten the public on the reasons behind the removal of the oil subsidy

He regretted that some politicians were playing politics with it and urged media professionals to tell the people the obvious advantages of the removal.

Uzodimma used the opportunity to urge the professionals to always abide by the ethics of the profession by reporting accurately and unbiasedly

The media professionals led by the chairman of the state council of NUJ, Comrd Ifeanyi Nwanguma, Correspondents chapel, led by Comrd Chinonso Alozie of the Vanguard Newspapers and NAWOJ by Dorothy Nnaji,PhD

Earlier in his address, the chairman of the Correspondents chapel, Comrd Chinonso Alozie of Vanguard Newspapers, told the Governor that the chapel had launched a programme known as ‘ information not disinformation project ‘ to use the right information to correct the disinformation about the state

He later presented a copy of the partnership letter to the Governor and added that the chapel had resolved to inaugurate a programme called, ” community interactive forum to showcase the community projects of the state government.
