At a very colourful and well attended ceremony, the Inspector-General of Police IGP Usman Alkali Baba on Monday decorated twenty-four newly promoted Commissioners of Police CPs into their new and higher ranks of Assistant Inspectors General of Police AIGs.
The IGP who decorated the senior Police officers at the Peace Keeping Hall Force Headquarters annex Abuja said that the event is the first phase in the decoration exercise of a total of one hundred and seven officers who recently were elevated to new ranks by the Police Service Commission.
The highest ranking Police officer also stated that promotion exercise is a due recognition of the history of professional excellence of all the senior officers being decorated adding that more officers ‘ll be decorated with the new ranks tomorrow.
According to the IGP, the latest promotion exercise and its process was not only guided by the principles of seniority and merit, it was also reflective of the unblemished record of service and invaluable experience of the benefiting officers.
He said that at this time that the country is faced with complex security challenges, it is expedient that the Nigeria Police being the lead agency in internal security management is re-positioned to deal with the current dynamics of crime and future security threats.
He further that newly elevated officers as strategic Police managers ‘ll drive his policing vision and give effect to his strategies that that are directed at responding to such current and emerging security threats.
The Police boss reminded the promotees that to whom much is given, much more shall be expected as the nation expects of them a higher level of courage and professionalism which are needed to to move the Police and indeed the entire nation to the next level.
He said:”As you transit from the Commissioner cadre to the enviable and strategic Assistant Inspector General of Police rank, you must be prepared to discharge the schedules of your new rank within the dictates of the time of law and expectations of the citizens.
“Most importantly you must in your actions be conscious of the reality that you could be called to account for your actions or inaction as you carry out higher policing responsubilities”
The IGP who is the twentieth occupant of the position while thanking the Police Service Commission for supporting his reform agenda and aiding in the human capacity development initiatives expressed optimism that the elevated officer will not disappoint the Force and the nation.
Some of the newly decorated senior Police officers include AIG Madaki Audu who hails from Taraba and was born on September 16, 1962. He enlisted into the Police Force on March 3 1990 and holds a Bachelor’s degree and Post Graduate Diploma PGD in Public Administration.
Also decorated in a new rank by the IGP is AIG Amadi John a native of Afikpo in Ebonyi State born on March 10,1963.
He enlisted into the Police Force on March 3, 1990 and holds both Bachelor and Masters degree in Biology.
Others are AIG Kaoje Sanni who hails from Kebbi State and was born on February 2,1964. He holds a Bachelor of Education in Physical and Health Education and was Commissioner in Kano and Sometimes states.
Other decorated officers are AIG Azare Ahmed born on March 3, 1961 and holds Bachelor of Arts Islamic Studies, AIG Ede Ayuba born on Oct 24, 1964 in Kuje FCT and holds Bachelor of Arts in English and AIG Abubakar Balarabe born on March 7, 1963 and holds a Higher National Diploma HND among others.
Some notable dignitaries that attended the decoration ceremony of the newly elevated AIGs include the Chief of Army Staff COAS Maj-Gen Farouk Yahaya, Minister of Police Affairs Mohammed Dingyadi, Minister of FCT Muhammad Bello and the Chairman Police Service Commission PSC Mr Musliu Smith among others.
