The Managing Director of Indorama Petrochemicals and Fertilizer Production Company in Eleme, Rivers State, Nigeria and Executive Director at Indorama Africa, Mr Manish Mundra, has restated the commitment of the firm to environmental protection and corporate social responsibility (CSR) to host communities.
Mr. Mundra stated this during a hangout with members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists in Rivers State, where he eulogized the outgoing Head of Corporate Communications of the Group, Dr Jossy Nkwocha, for his meritorious services for 18 years.
The MD, represented by the Chief Technical Officer of Indorama Nigeria, Mr Deepu Sivadas, praised Dr Nkwocha for demonstrating a high level of professionalism in his partnership with journalists, saying the synergy has positioned Indorama in the right perspective in terms of reportage of the company’s operations.
He said Dr Nkwocha is a thoroughbred Communications professional who has contributed immensely to the growth of the group.
He posited that it is rare to find a head of department in any organization who turned the department to his image, saying Dr Nkwocha achieved the feat, and admitted that he left big shoes to be filled.
He advised Dr Nkwocha never to retire from his profession, rather “to re-tyre” his professionalism and move on to higher heights.
Earlier, in his remarks, Dr Jossy Nkwocha commended the management of Indorama for giving him the opportunity to serve in the company and thanked journalists for their support.
Nkwocha introduced his successor, Mr Justice Bibiye, whom he said would step into his shoes after he formally steps aside on 31st May 2025.
He said the objective of the event was to thank the media for supporting him in the past 18 years and asked them to extend the same support to his successor, Mr Bibiye.
“I have enjoyed tremendous support of journalists in the state in the past 18 years, and for this reason, I haven’t experienced any media crises.
“I want to thank you all for your cooperation and to announce that I’m about to step down by the end of this month. I shall be retiring and Mr Justice Bibiye will be stepping into my shoes.
“Bibiye is one of us, a thorough bred corporate communications personality, having served at NTA and AIT. I, therefore, urge you to avail him the same level of support,” he said.
On his part, Mr Justice Bibiye commended journalists in the state for supporting his predecessor and contributing to the growth of the company, and appealed for same support, even as he reminded them that he was part of the Port Harcourt media family.
He described Indorama facilities and plants in Eleme, near Port Harcourt as a critical national asset.
“Indorama is critical national asset contributing significantly to the economy.
The company is continuously creating jobs and assisting the government tackle food shortage through high quality fertilizers production for export and local demands.”
The chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Rivers State, Comrade Paul Bazia, in his remark lauded the organisation for her achievements and pledged to sustain the cooperation.
Indorama, an 8,000 metric tons daily capacity fertilizer production company, is the largest single-train urea facility in Sub-Saharan Africa with a legacy of excellence in fertilizer production.
