INEC may sanction Adamawa APC over alleged tempering with delegates’ list

The Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) has expressed concern over the allegations that the Adamawa state chapter of All Progressive Congress APC has made some changes on its delegates list.

 

While addressing Party officials, security chiefs, journalists and other stakeholders yesterday in Yola ,the Adamawa state Resident Electoral Commissioner REC Kassim Geidam, said that any political party that conduct primaries with delegates list outside the list with INEC will be disqualify from participating in the general Elections.

 

He said that INEC will strictly adhere to the provisions of the 2022 amended electoral Act to ensure that the timetable of the 2023 general elections is not affected.

 

Crisis has enveloped Adamawa state chapter of APC over allegations by some governorship aspirants that the delegates list has been changed ahead of the primaries.

 

Three govetnorship aspirants Hon. Abdulrazaq Namdas, Unar Mustapha and Theman Wafari,on Tuesday addressed journalists alledging that the delegates list has been changed.

 

Senator Ishaku Aboh representing northern Adamawa and Former speaker Mijinyawa Kabiru, confirmed during APC stakeholders meeting on Wednesday that fresh Congress was conducted on Tuesday this week to replace some delegates.

 

Geidam explained that women and Youth have the highest number of voters registration, pointing out that the key to select new leaders is now in the hands of women and youth and that it is an opportunity for them to dominate the politics.

 

” The higher figure of females projects an active participation of women in the electoral process which should reflect in the number of elective offices they would occupy in the 2023 general elections,” he maintained.

 

Geidam who lamented that out of 39,770 voters cards delivered to the state for collection,only 3,641 has been collected, a situation he described as unfortunate and capable of affecting the outcome of the election.

 

He disclosed further that INEC has converted all voting points ( VPs) used in 2019 general elections to fulk-fledged polling units ( PU).

 

” The conversion of the VPs to PUs has brought the total number of PUsin the state to 4,104,” he stated.
