…insists Fuel subsidy not in the interest of Nigerians

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has urged the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to inculcate the doctrine of patriotism among youths/students in order to reduce the upsurge of cultism and kidnapping .
In a similar vein, Umahi has declared that fuel subsidy sd currently canvassed by some people was not a blessing to the country.
“We subsidize fuel for N70 billion monthly, it is not true that the nation uses 60 million barrels daily.”
Umahi made the assertion in abakaliki the Ebonyi State capital on Friday while declaring open the 65th Emergency Sent Meeting of the National Association of Nigerian Students.
“Fuel subsidy is not in the interest of anyone, the approval for the renovation of Port Harcourt refinery was okay, people should allow it to work”
He commended the Leadership of the Association for the choice of Ebonyi as host for the meeting emphasizing that the nation’s security lies in the resolve of youths to shun divisive tendencies.
“The nation can only be rebuilt by youths that have the fear of God, the future depends on you, do not join people to destroy people”
“I urge the youths to shun kidnappings, cultism, avoid destruction of public infrastructure, say no to recklessness”
“I believe in our students, after the Endsars protest Ebonyi State Government reduced the tuition fees of students payable at the State University with N20,000 reduction for indigens and N10, 000 for non-students respectively”
The State Chief Executive said that he focused on the development of youths because they are the panacea for the restoration of peace and security in the country.
“Without the youths involvement, there will be no cultism, kidnapoing and other violent crimes in the society”
Umahi commended President Bihari for upholding the peace and unity of the country stating “the President gave N10 billion to all the 36 States of the country for infrastructure”
Earlier in a speech, the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students Comrade Sunday Asefo Dayo extolled Umahi for the massive infrastructural developments in the State .
“41 million members of Nigerian Students have unanimously confirmed that you are a Governor of the Students.
He said that the meeting would deliberate among other things on a New Constitution for the Association .
The NANS President enjoined Governors of the 36 States to accord high budgetary provision to the Education sector to enhance the Educational and Scientific developments of the country.
The 65th Emergency Senate meeting of the Association drew participants from representative of students Union leaders across various universities in the country.
