National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced training of unemployed persons in Imo state on Environmental which is designed to equip them in hard and soft landscaping skills in erosion control and environmental beautification, protection and sanitation.
The acting director general of the directorate , Mallam Abubakar Fikpo said this at the launch of the scheme in Owerri Thursday.
Mallam Fikpo who disclosed this through the NDE coordinator in the state Mrs Ngozi Ihenacho said that the trainees were part of 1,548 trainees recruited nationwide in the ratio of 2 trainees from each Local Government Area.
According to him ,the scheme was part of the Federal Government’s efforts to reduce unemployment in the country through skill acquisition
He further explained that the directorate would resettle successful trainees to enable them start up their own businesses without delay
The director general urged the trainees to take the training seriously as according to him, there were 100 applicants in the state but only 54 were selected.
” 54 trainees were recruited in Imo, two persons per LGA as there are 27 LGAs in the state. This is a laudable achievement of the Federal Government in the area of job creation through skill acquisition”
” I thank the government of Imo for providing the enabling environment for this training and urge beneficiaries of this scheme to prove their worth “, he said.
In his address, the Head, Department of Special Public Works , Mallam Idris Wase said that the trainees will be trained in the broad areas of soft landscaping and hard landscaping.
Mallam Wase was represented by a deputy director in the department, Mr Anthony Okum
He said that areas such as horticulture, painting, designing and construction of culvert rings will be captured in the training.
According to him, successful trainees from the year 2020 EBTS training had already been settled with equipment such as water pumping machines , flower pots, and moulds among others.
” Paid trainers will equip trainees with viable skills in the broad areas of soft landscaping and hard landscaping for a period of three months”
He further said , ” I am happy to inform you that last year’s trainees have been resettled and the same awaits you if you take the training serious “,
Reacting on behalf of other trainees one of the trainees, Mr Michael Uzondu from Owerri North LGA thanked the Federal Government and pledged unflinching commitment to the training
