Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Osun State Chapter has advocated for a peaceful hitch-free gubernatorial election in the state.
This is as it announced that a peace summit involving all registered political parties and their candidates, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Security personnel and media practitioners will hold on Tuesday 28, 2022.
Speaking during a press conference on Monday in Osogbo, Chairman of Osun NIPR, Mr Ademola Adesoji called for the engagement of communication specialists in the electoral processes.
Adesoji noted that the institute have well trained personnel who would effectively manage information to curb violence that erupts through hate speech.
Giving the details of the summit, the chairman said, “in a bid to sustain peace, we, the Osun State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, decided to organise a peace summit at Adolak Event Centre, Osogbo, on Tuesday, 28th June, 2022, by 10AM to engage all the Gubernatorial candidates and stakeholders on behalf of the public and the good people of Osun State.
“During this engagement, we shall be focusing on how the candidates intend to sustain the cherished peace of the State. The theme of the summit is– Sustaining Our Values Beyond Elections.
“Precisely, all the Gubernatorial candidates representing the political parties in the state will converge at the venue to share their views on the topic– Osun 2022: A State, Its Politics, Economy and Image.
“The Guest Speaker is Dr. Segun Aina OFR, while an Emeritus Professor of Sociology in Unilag, and a former INEC National Commissioner, Prof. Lai Olurode; and the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun State, Prof. Abdulganiy Raji will discuss the topic further.
“At the end of the summit, all the Gubernatorial candidates will be given the NIPR charter to read to commit themselves to ensuring peace and a violent-free election, before, during and after the election.”
He averred that Osun NIPR, alongside other professional bodies, have been working hard to ensure that the reputation of Osun state and that of their principals are well managed to avert irreparable damage.
