Plateau’s Gov. Caleb Mutfwang on Monday appealed to people of the state to imbibe the spirit of forgiveness over crises in Mangu Local Government Area of the state in which lives were lost.
The governor made the appeal in a statement issued in Jos by his media aide, Mr Gyang Bere.
He implored the people to be tolerant of one another and to stop taking the laws into their hands.
The governor warned that government would not tolerate activities of crises merchants determined to cause unrest and disaffection between Plateau people for their selfish interests.
“The time now is for us to put issues that divide us as Plateau citizens behind us and work with one accord to preserve our heritage,’’ the governor said in the statement.
He restated government’s determination to build a new and united Plateau hinged on inclusiveness and where opinions of law-abiding citizens would be accommodated for safety and progress.
Mutfwang tasked religious, traditional and community leaders to strengthen inter-community relations in their areas, and to begin the process of confidence building for those affected by the crises immediately.
He directed security personnel not to treat anyone or group of people identified as perpetrators or sponsors of insecurity in the state with kid gloves.
The governor sympathised with families of those killed in the Mangu attacks and prayed to God to comfort them. He also prayed for quick recovery for the injured.
