Ebonyi State Police Command on Monday detained a 32-year old Commercial sex worker named Chekwube Victoria, with the intent of selling her 4-month old baby girl for N40,000.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO)Lovet Odah made the disclosure in Abakaliki on Tuesday while parading the woman before newsmen at the Police Headquarters located in the capital city.
The PPRO said that the commercial sex worker who she described as mentally deranged reported to the Command that she was desirous of selling her baby girl because she could no longer fend for her.
“She said she was a commercial sex worker and mother of the baby, but at the moment she does not want the baby , she is now looking for a buyer of the baby for N40,000 to open a beer Parlour”
According to the Police Image Maker, “All efforts made to persuade her stop the idea fell on deaf ears, if she goes home if the baby she will throw her away”
The PPRO said that sex worker could no longer trace her parents stating that Operatives of the Command work in synergy with other security Agenciesin their operation.
Mrs Odah said that the Command has resolved to transfer the sex worker to the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for rehabilitation
” The Commercial Sex Worker has been in Protective Custody since last Monday till now she is not normal we will transfer her to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development”
In an interview, the commercial sex worker Chekwube Victoria said that she wants to sell her baby because she could no longer afford to fend for her.
“I want to sell my baby for N40,000, she is 4-months old old, we reside in Ogbe Hausa Quarters Area of Abakaliki, I am currently a commercial sex worker”
