Friday August 9, 2024 will forever remain memorable and historic for members of the Rivers State Chapter of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, POWA, and the Rivers State Police Command, under the Commissioner, CP Olatunji Disu.

 

It was a moment of great joy and amusement as Officers’ Wives in Rivers State ably led by Mrs. Olufunmilola Disu, organised a parade at the State Police headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, donning their husbands’ police uniforms and ranks, as part of activities to usher-in the 60th anniversary  celebration of the association.

 

Our correspondent reports that the officers’ wives marched through the command’s premises, before moving over to office of the Rivers Police Boss, CP Olatunji Disu.

 

It was more of  fun when the POWA Chairperson, Mrs. Olufunmilola Disu, took over her husband’s seat and functioned as the Commissioner of Police for about an hour, piloting the affairs of the Command in place of her husband, with other Senior Officers’ wives and POWA executives in the state emerging her management team, as they received the state CP, Olatunji Disu and other senior officers as guests on a courtesy visit.

 

Speaking during the event, Wife of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police and POWA Chairperson in the State, Mrs. Olufunmilola Disu thanked wife of the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun for the initiative which according to her was aimed at boosting the morale their spouses (Police Officers) and displaying POWA’s unalloyed support and solidarity to their husbands for their commitment in the safety of the society and maintaining law and order in the state.

 

Mrs. Disu while disclosing that it is rewarding to be police officers’ wives the respect and regard she gets everyday as the wife of the commissioner of police is awesome.

 

She applauded the CP and other officers for being good and trustworthy father’s to their families, stating that they will keep praying for them, taking care of their children.

 

The POWA Chairperson disclosed that for six decades, the organization has been testament to the unsung heroes of law enforcement agency.

 

Her words, “Today we honour the strength, resilience and compassion that define the very heart of a police wife.

 

“We know the challenges and sacrifices that come with this noble profession.The sleepless nights, the constant worries and the fear of the unknown, these are the burdens we carry day in and day out.

 

“We are the rock upon which our husbands can lean, the safe harbor they return to after a long and difficult shift. Throughout the years, Police Officers’ Wives Association has being a beacon of light, guiding us through the darkest of times, from offering emotional support and counselling services to organizing charitable initiatives and educational programs.

 

“We also empower Police officers widows, through trainings and programmes to make them independent,” she said.

 

Speaking, the Rivers State  Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olatunji Disu congratulated the police officers’ wives led by his spouse, for their perfect display and commended them for keeping their homes and taking care of their children while they are on duty, describing them as special women.

 

CP Disu commended the IGP’s wife for the initiative and thanked his wive and other officers’ wives for their immeasurable supports and prayers.

 

“Our wives gives us emotional intelligence and advice, they pray for us. The perfect parade by them today, means they learnt a lot from us. They make our home conducive. If after work, your home is not conducive, you will not want to return home. A Police officer without conducive home cannot be a good Police officer.

 

“We are going to keep pictures of our wives in this uniform. Our wives know everything about us. They are our prayer warriors.

 

“A man that will die quick is the one without a conducive home. Our work is getting tougher day by day. I want you to look at us and know when we are happy. Continue to lessen our burdens, he appealed.
