Romanian Government declares fuel crisis, caps prices, limits exports
The government will declare a crisis situation on the fuel market on Wednesday and will limit the commercial markup for gasoline and diesel, as well as exports, through an emergency decree, according to a statement from the executive branch.
The Government adopts measures to protect the economy and the population amid the fuel market crisis, says a Government press release.
“Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan convened on Monday, at Victoria Palace, a working group to analyze the rise in fuel prices and identify solutions aimed at reducing the impact on the economy and the population. Following the discussions, it was decided that the Government will adopt, tomorrow, an emergency ordinance declaring a state of crisis on the crude oil and/or petroleum products market and establishing measures to protect the economy and the population during this crisis.
During the state of crisis, protective measures will be introduced for a period of six months, with the possibility of successive extensions of up to three months, as long as the circumstances that led to the declaration of the crisis persist. The commercial markup for gasoline, diesel, and the raw materials used to produce them will be capped across the entire economic supply chain.
The export and/or intra-community deliveries of gasoline and diesel will be allowed only with prior written approval from the Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism and the Ministry of Energy.
During the crisis period, the amount of biofuel in gasoline will be reduced in order to lower the final price.
Additionally, the Ministries of Finance, Economy, and Energy, together with the Competition Council, will continuously monitor the market and assess any further necessary measures.
Also present at the meeting were Deputy Prime Minister Marian Neacșu, Minister of Energy Bogdan Ivan, Minister of Finance Alexandru Nazare, Minister of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism Irineu Darău, as well as representatives of the Competition Council.”
