SON, stakeholders brainstorm in Onitsha on product standardization

Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), and stakeholders, Wednesday at CJ Patterson auditorium, All Saits Cathedral, Onitsha, Anambra State, brainstormed on how to standardize products to have  International recognition.

 

SON, led by its Director General, Mallam Farouk Salim, dwelt on  industrial and manufacturing business in reducing influx of substandard products into the country.

 

Salim, who was represented by his Senior Special Adviser, Mr Emeka, Duru, spoke in the one-day stakeholders sensitization forum with the theme: Standardization; Catalysts for industrialization.

 

He stressed the need for all to patronize SON, by collaborating to reduce influx of substandard products, and share information with SON on substandard products..

 

“Standardization is a global issue and Nigeria cannot afford to lag behind in the comity of nation if we desire economic development.

 

“Efforts are geared towards cooperation of all manufacturers, consumers, service providers and government at all level with SON in this global subject”, he said.

 

The Director General said that their vision was to improve life through standardization and quality assurance, saying that their mission was to promote consumer confidence and global competitiveness of Nigeria products and services.

 

Contributing, a senior lecturer, faculty of Law, at University of Nigeria Nsukka, Dr. Festus Ukwueze, said that price should not be determinant in purchase of product but quality, to avoid death caused by fake/ substandard product.

 

In his contribution, Mr. Ifeanyichukwu Charles said that SON services were poor and asked it to live up to the expectation of the people.

 

“I gave SON 20 per cent for its poor services in its contribution to move the economy forward as concerns product standardization,” he stated.

 

Earlier, the SON Anambra State coordinator, Mr. Ogbuji Michael, stated that SON’s goal entailes consistency or uniformity to certain practice and within the selected environment, standardization, promotion and productivity.
