Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, All Progressives Congress (APC) 2023 presidential candidate, has pledged to provide better welfare for the less privileged Nigerians if elected as the next president.

Tinubu spoke while presenting gift items and food stuff to over 1,000 physically challenged persons in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and some states on Tuesday in Abuja.

The event was organised by Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, Vice Chairman APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).

According to Kennedy-Ohanenye, the event was part of her corporate social responsibility of giving back to the society, especially during Christmas season.

Tinubu said the event was in line with the APC policy thrust on improving the welfare of Nigerians.

Speaking further on the beneficiaries, the APC presidential candidate said; “they are not disabled but are physically challenged persons who are mentally sound’’.

He said that though they may be physically challenged, they could contribute to national development if properly trained and equipped with the right skills under conducive environment.

Tinubu was accompanied to the event by Sen. Kashim Shettima, his Vice-Presidential candidate, Speaker House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and other APC chieftains.

The former two-term Lagos State governor promised to run an all-inclusive government that would provide a level playing ground for all Nigerians regardless of culture or religion.

Also speaking, Kennedy-Ohanenye, the organiser of the event said the primary aim was to put smile on the faces of the physically challenged.

She added that Tinubu, their benefactor and the APC presidential candidate, was solidly behind them and assured that life under Tinubu as president would be much better.

She explained that the event was part of her strategies to give the physically challenged a sense of belonging as stakeholders in the Nigerian development project.

She said if elected as the country`s next president, Tinubu would work with the National Assembly to pass legislation that would promote gender equality in government offices, particularly in the presidency.

She said a Tinubu APC-led government would also increase women’s participation in government to at least 35 per cent of all governmental positions while private institutions shall be strongly encouraged to do likewise.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that Kennedy-Ohanenye was the only female former APC presidential aspirant ahead of its primary that produced Tinubu.(NAN)
