United African Methodist Church Unveils Programmes to Celebrate 106 Years

The United African Methodist Church (UAMC) has unveiled programmes of activities as the church marks the 106 years of Founders’ Day this year.

According to the Planning Committee headed by Hon. Sesan Olanrewaju, the UAMC will be 106 years old on November 27, 2023 and a series of spiritual and physical activities have been lined up starting from Wednesday 15 November with a world press conference at the UAMC Cathedral, Ebute Metta, Lagos, South-west Nigeria.

Olanrewaju said: “We have put together a series of activities that will last 19 days starting from the day of the press conference till 3 December.

“Yesterday, there was Praise Nights at the Diocesan Level in Lagos, Badagry and Ogun State, while on Friday 24 November, there will be a mega Praise Night at the organisation level at the Town Hall in Ikorodu, Lagos tagged “Rejoice and Give Praise.”

He said that 12-day fasting and prayers have been set aside to hold from Thursday 16 November – Monday 27 November. Each Diocese has been mandated to organise a break of fasting online programme.

Preliminary rounds of Bible quizzes in four different categories will be held on Saturday 25 November at the Diocesan levels with the final of the quiz scheduled for Saturday 2 December at the Cathedral Headquarters, 40 John Street, Oke-Arin, Lagos by 11a.m.

A seminar at the Diocesan levels for the youth, women and men’s fellowships will take place on 28 November, while a workshop for the choirs and stewards will be held on 289 November.

An evangelism outreach at the Circuit Level/Diocesan Level with customised T-shirts and presentation of gifts for widows and orphans will take place on 30 November.

The chairman of the planning committee said that the highlight of the 106 year’s Founders’ Day celebration of the United African Methodist Church  will be the enthronement of a new Archbishop, presentation of awards and holy communion service and love feast will be held at the church cathedral in Ebute Metta from 11am on 27 November.

“On 27 November, Rt. Rev. Michael Olaitan Olajide will be given the mantle as an Archbishop during a service that will be presided over by the Primate of the UAMC, His Eminence, the Most Rev Joseph Adedayo Ojaoba (JP), while exchange of pulpits at the Diocesan levels and thanksgivings in all our churches will round up the Founders’ Day celebration on 3 December,” Olanrewaju said.

He said the church has been adding value to the life of its members with the institution of cooperatives, scholarships and special programmes for the youth, students, elders and clergy.

The Lay President of the church, Mr.Oladapo Adeyanju Ogunlewe said that since 27 November 1917 when the UAMC was founded, the church has continued to grow with over 100 branches already in Nigeria and no fewer than 36 churches of the UAMC has been established in Benin Republic.

“We have continued to propagate the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and it is our vision to spread the tentacles of the church across the world in the nearest future,” Ogunlewe said.
