WAPCo achieves record gas delivery of 217 KMMBtu/D in 2025

The West African Pipeline Company (WAPCo), an international gas delivery company that supplies natural gas across four West African countries – Nigeria, Benin Republic, Togo and Ghana, has set a new record performance by delivering an average of 217,000 million British thermal units per day of gas (KMMBtu/D) as at the end of November, 2025.

The energy flow rate of 217 KMMBtu/D of gas is approximately 317 megawatts (MW) of electricity, which is quite huge in a sub-region that suffers grave energy deficit.

The company also achieved over 13.5 million manhours lost time injury free (LTI-free) operation in 11 years affirming its commitment to safety of staff, contractors and safe operations.

The WAPCo Managing Director, Mr. Abiodun (Abbey) Bodunrin, disclosed these during his introductory meeting with energy correspondents in Lagos. Bodunrin was accompanied by some of his management team including the newly appointed General Manager, Operations, Mr. Abubakar Bello Gwadabe.

In his remarks entitled “Our journey of growth and delivering value”, Bodunrin reiterated that WAPCo is committed to transporting natural gas in a safe, responsible and reliable manner to create value for its diverse stakeholders.

He said: “Our strategic objectives guide how we set priorities, allocate resources, determine capability needs, and manage budgeting. These objectives help shape the goals and plans of individuals and teams, ensuring that everyone’s efforts are focused and aligned to achieve our corporate objectives.

“These objectives make us employ an integrated approach to ensure uninterrupted pipeline availability through safe and incident-free operations.

“Create value for our shareholders by optimizing cost and maximizing revenue through effective management and profitable growth

“Fulfill key regional energy roles through effective advocacy and management of stakeholder expectations.

“Attain an efficient and effective world class organizational capability and contribute to regional economic growth and development, benefiting families, communities, businesses, and industries across the region.”

Stressing on its operational performance in 2025, Bodunrin disclosed that WAPCo’s asset availability reached an all-time high of approximately 99%, with total gas delivery averaging 217 KMMBtu/D. The highest in the history of WAPCo, representing volume increase of 22% year-on-year.

To ensure the company’s asset integrity, the WAPCo chief stated that the company undertook some major activities, including the cleaning and inspection of offshore section of its pipeline. The company also undertook and published its first ever Sustainability Report, which captured the progress it has made and outlined plans and aspirations for the future.

For the future, the company plans in 2026 is to grow and improve use of available capacity of pipeline, engage with key partners in the WAGP states to leverage on potential opportunities for growth, maximize revenue, deliver improved value for its shareholders and create value for its diverse stakeholders.

On safety, Bodunrin noted that safety remains the management’s foremost priority. As of November 2025, WAPCo has achieved 11 years & 13+ million (13,528,543) workforce hours without any recordable injury for staff and contractors, he said, adding that “We need to grow and utilize WAGP at full capacity.”
