We didn’t summon Fubara, deputy -Rivers Govt
Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.) led Rivers State government has described as worrisome, the rising outbreaks of fake news emanating from unknown sources in the state.
This followed a report alleging that the Rivers Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd.) summoned the suspended state Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Mrs. Ngozi Odu to appear before him for questioning on appointments and other activities of his administration in the past two years.
The report, contained in a statement allegedly signed by the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, SSG, Prof Ibibia Worika went viral on social media and several media outlets yesterday.
But the Rivers State Government has denied inviting neither Governor Fubara nor his deputy for questioning or for any other reason.
The state government through a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Special Services Bureau, in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Sir Dede Sampson Friday, dismissed the reports as false, fake and misleading.
The statement reads in part; “The Rivers State Government has become aware of fraudulent announcements circulating on social media, falsely attributed to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
“These malicious fabrications are designed to mislead the public, create panic, and disrupt the peace in Rivers State.
“One such fake announcement falsely claims that His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, the suspended Governor of Rivers State, and the Deputy Governor, Prof. Mrs. Ngozi Nma Odu, were summoned to a meeting at the Government House on Friday, April 18, 2025.
“The Rivers State Government categorically states that this announcement is FAKE and did not originate from any official source. The public is urged to disregard this and any similar misinformation, as they are the work of troublemakers seeking to destabilize the state.”
The statement noted that “official communications from the Rivers State Government are disseminated only through verified channels, including; the official Rivers State Government website: www.riversstate.gov.ng, authorized government social media handles: rivers state government Facebook account, others are being reviewed for relaunch.
Recalled that last week, the government also refuted a news of alleged appointment of Mr Samuel Nwanosike, an ally of the FCT Minister, as the Sole Administrator of RIWAMA, as well as the approval of the Sole Administrator to commence recruitment of 10,000 workers in the state civil service.
Both reports contained in a statement allegedly signed by the SSG, Ibibia Worika also went viral on social media.
