Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina state, Sen. Yakubu Lado, has said that the underperformance of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) at the state and national levels will make it a mission impossible for President Muhammad Buhari led party to win 2023 general elections, arguing that Nigerians have been impoverished by APC.

speaking at the inauguration of the joint presidential and gubernatorial campaign council of the Katsina PDP on Sunday at the state secretariat of the party in Katsina, Sen. Lado told enthusiastic supporters of the opposition party that though APC was determined to win the forthcoming polls, the realities on ground would make it unrealistic.

Dismissing fear over the possibilities of the PDP winning the 2023 elections, the former law maker said: “Nigerians have been impoverished by APC and many of them are already crying for an alternative in governance, which the PDP is poised to be.

“However, the electorate should not fall for trick of APC to give them N1000 or any amount in exchange for their votes.”

Arguing that the hardship which the APC had inflicted on Nigerians was more than enough reason for the ruling party to be voted out next year, he added: “From all indications, and by God’s grace, PDP is confident that it will go very far in the coming elections; in all elective positions in the state.

“There is unity of purpose in the PDP in the state and, if elected, my government will give adequate attention to agriculture, including irrigation, besides the water and education sectors.

“We will boost the internally generated revenue of the local government areas, and not tamper with the councils’ funds to ensure rapid transformation of lives at the grassroots across the state.”

On the controversial payment of Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) for only a section of the final year students in public  secondary schools which the incumbent APC government, he vowed that PDP government would scrap the policy.

In his acceptance remarks, the Director General of the Atiku / Lado campaign council in Katsina, Dr. Mustapha inuwa, appealed for the support of the party faithful and the general public for them to achieve their goals, saying, “we are appealing for unity and commitment of PDP members, supporters and and the public.”
