The World Health Organization ( WHO) has said that over one million children will get free malaria treatment in Adamawa state this year.
Speaking yesterday in Yola during Media Engagement on Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention ( SMC) campaign, organized by WHO, the WHO National Consultant Malaria on Emergency Dr .IniAbasi Nglass, said that the scheme is designed to safe children from the scourge if malaria.
Nglass who blamed the high rate of malaria in Nigeria on poor funding by government, pointed out that other countries scaled down the malaria scourge due good budgeting to Cage the endemic in their countries.
” The Nigeria government is not properly funding the fight against malaria, why malaria cases are low in other countries is that government budget good amount of money to fight the scourge called malaria. Donor agencies have their limits they cannot do everything for a country, other countries too needs theirs assistant, “she said.
The consultant noted that SMC is a four months intervention scheme for children under the ages of three years.
Nglass maintained that the objective of the media engagement on SMC campaign is to make media practitioners to understand what SMC is ,it’s benefits and be able to report correctly on SMC campaign in Adamawa state.
