Barely three months to the long awaited general election, Importers Association of Nigeria, Thursday, in Onitsha, Anambra State, pleaded to Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, not to rig the election in favour of any candidate because of paltry gift.
Making the plea in Onitsha, the chairman, Board of Trustees, (BoT), of the Importers, Chief Gilbert Obi, stated that INEC should not drag her image to the mud by rigging the election even as he assured that it would be difficult to rig sequel to the introduction of electronic transfer of results.
“INEC should be fair, sincere and honest to everybody irrespective of ethnic, religious and political party affiliation. Let the votes of the electorate count for the winner voted by the majority of Nigerians to emerge.
“No amount of money should make INEC rig the election. Let INEC for the first time give Nigerians their leader who will emerge through the highest number of votes counted,” he pleaded.
The BoT chairman also urged the eligible voters to ensure they collect their Permanent Voters’ Cards, PVCs, now begging for collection in various INEC offices nationwide, as the instrument to be used to elect the candidates of their choice.
“The eligible voters who have not collected their PVCs should try and collect them at the various INEC offices because it is with the PVC that one will be able to vote for his candidates. It is the power to enthrone one’s choice,” he stated
On the possibility of electing a president of Igbo extraction, Chief Obi, who is called ‘Bravo,’ by his admirers, reiterated that Mr. Peter Obi, has what it takes to be elected the next President of Nigeria.
“The records are there for verification by any doubting Thomas on his achievements for the eight years he was the Governor of Anambra State. He is a good manager of human and material resources.
“Nigeria is endowed with human and material resources and what we need is one that will harness them for the good of all Nigerians irrespective of tribe, religion and political party affiliation”, Obi further stated.
