Takes place in Lagos on July 19 and 20

As part of efforts to explore solutions  to lingering power issues and  boost the nation’s  power sector and in view of the recent Parliamentary Act, empowering states to generate their own electricity, the 2023 powerSolution Conference has been scheduled to hold in Lagos between July 19 and 20, 2023 at Eko Hotels and Suite

Speaking with Energy  editors in  Lagos, the Chief Executive Officer of PowerCap Limited, Mr Biodun Ogunleye, said the conference, with the theme: “Sustainable Resolution of the Gaps in the Power Sector’ will examine and  explore keys  solutions to lingering power challenges.

Ogunleye expressed that The PowerSolution Conference aims to support the energy sector in achieving its power supply goals. Power capacity within the industry currently fluctuates at 3000-4000 megawatts, which means the sector can only dispatch around 4,000 MW, significantly insufficient for a country of over 195 million people.

‘’The critical issue that stakeholders are currently debating is, “how do we increase capacity in the power sector power capacity in Nigeria?” The Nigeria Energy conference aims to help the government manifest its vision by collaborating with international and local stakeholders, including manufacturers, distributors, and suppliers of certain products that range from conventional generation methods to renewable energy technologies. The agenda also helps create a marketplace for industry players to network and find solutions to the lingering issues within the Energy sector.

He said other issues to be discussed include :Right operating Environment: state governments and creation of new markets, Power generation: making more capacity available, Transmission and Distribution: maintaining network infrastructure to enhance sustainable grid, Retailing: Challenges with creating a wholesome experience for customers while reducing losses, Energy Consumption and Management: cases of loss reduction  implementation, Digitalisation: optimising KYC projects for sustainable loss reduction and more accurate energy accounting, Feedstock: overcoming  gas constraints/inhibitors, Financing: financing project in the sector etc.

On addressing energy challenges in Nigeria, he noted that the conference will be tackling challenges of distribution, transmission, and generation companies and dissect the recent electricity act and how best to go about it.

According to him ‘I think the main challenge is all stakeholders’ determination to address the situation by creating an enabling environment for investors to thrive in the sector. That is, building confidence for investors to get involved. We know that many investors are interested in the Nigerian market because they see an opportunity in the market.

He affirmed that the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu is expected to be the Special Guest and Keynote Speaker while other notable personalities and experts in the power sectors will make presentations on various issues.

According to Mr Ogunleye, the two day event, unlike others, will focus strictly on electricity, power and other issues  impairing achievements  in the sector.

“It will also bring participants  together  and become a platform for cross  fertilisation of ideas, sharing and learning  to ensure that Nigeria is able to improve its energy access and duration of stable power supply to meet the needs of homes, industries and other users”, he said.

The powerSolution Conference  started as far back as early 2000, with some held within and outside the country.
