Following the agitations from groups and well- meaning Nigerians for a South Eastern Presidency in 2023, the Igbo Youths Congress Worldwide has urged all political parties to zone their presidential ticket to the South East geo-political zone for fairness, equity and unity of the country.

It specifically called on the Peoples Democratic Party PDP to lead the way and prove itself as a true national party by immediately zoning the position to Ndigbo.

According to a statement by Engr Osita Kalu Ugoji, National Publicity Secretary of the Congress, its members will soon commence a nationwide tour to plead for support from other Nigerians across other regions of the country to actualize the dream.

It read in part: “Since 1999, the people of the South East zone have religiously and tenaciously adopted and supported the PDP as her sole Political party across all the states of the region.

“It’s on the imperative that we state that in the spirit of equity and justice, the PDP should not contemplate any other zone for the ticket of the Party. The South East zone has paid her dues diligently for the support of PDP, and the party has remained the traditional party of the region.

“We note that the zone has been marginalized and politically schemed out of things and this is the time we call on our brothers from other zones and ethnic nationalities to enrich our democracy through the rotation of the Presidency to the South East.

“There is no excuse to why the South East should not produce the President of Nigeria in 2023 and we will support all alliances and formations that will lead to the realization of this mission across the country.

“The speculated planned defection of the Ebonyi State Governor, Engr David Umahi from the PDP is viewed as a bad signal that will lead to a huge minus on the party, we hope the party will act fast.

“Meanwhile, we want to call on all Nigerian youths especially our Igbo youths to discountenance the divisive utterances of the leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as he’s not the spokesman for the region.

“We call on all youths, political leaders and well to do Igbos worldwide to reach out to their networks, friends and relations across all other regions and form alliances that will make the Igbo Presidency a reality in 2023

“We shall soon commence a nationwide tour to plead for support from our brothers and sisters across other regions of the country. We believe in the unity of Nigeria.

“Igbo remains the greatest human organization where we are almost every part of the nation building the economy. We are aware that power is taken and not given that’s why we are calling for the massive support of all Nigerians”.
